Rediscover Your Authentic Self

I have found that setting the parameters for your first Authentic Self letter is the most effective option. If you need to do this again, you can use the same scenario or craft a new one. Rediscovering your authentic self isn’t about imagining a story in your head and then writing it down. Instead, start writing and let the story unfold organically. Buckel your seatbelt. This should be fun.

Exercise for Rediscovering Your Authentic Self

Authentic MeYou are just returning home from a long trip. You are to decide what the trip was for; it might have been for work or vacation or to visit friends or relatives who live at a distance. This is your ideal home. You are surrounded by love and support whether you live alone or with others (family or friends).

You have creative freedom when crafting this alternate reality. The setting can be anywhere and anywhen but the here and now; it could feature fantastical elements like Hobbits, Elves, Dragons, Androids, or anyone or anything you can imagine. It can occur in the distant future, the far past, or an entirely different universe. The choice is yours!

Create the perfect homecoming for yourself. Does a friend stop by? Is there a homecoming party? Do you prefer the peace of a quiet homecoming or a very active one? All the details are up to you.

The key is to create a fun and loving experience that reflects your true self without constraints. This is your chance to get back in touch with what really matters to you on a deep, soulful level.

Remember: rediscovering your authentic self isn’t about imagining a story in your head and then writing it down. Instead, start writing and let the story unfold organically.

Start your letter with: Hey [friend/relative], I’m finally back home after my trip to… Since I promised to describe my place to you in detail, here goes…(describe your house/home). The trip was fantastic, but nothing beat the feeling of returning home. When I got here…(describe your homecoming).

Once you’ve shared details about your home and your homecoming, dive deeper and describe what you find most meaningful or special about the place you call home and why it’s important to you.

Completing this powerful exercise can be life-changing. By the time you finish the final section, you’ll have a clear understanding of your authentic values and sense of self. Armed with that self-knowledge, you’ll be empowered to start living courageously and true to who you are. Rediscovering your authentic self is pivotal for living your best and happiest life.

It’s so easy to get caught up in society’s expectations of who you should be and what your goals should look like. You can always do this exercise again, but choosing something that will remind you of this experience will help you stay connected to your Authentic Self. A piece of jewelry, a tattoo, a ritual you can do every day (maybe something as easy as #kye). Maybe celebrate your authentic self with a spa treatment once a month.
